Sikki craft is made using grass, which is also called as Golden Grass, a type of grass belonging to the category of natural fibres.
This grass grows during the monsoons in the wet and marshy areas around rivers and ponds of North Bihar. This product has been manufactured in Madhubani and adjoining districts of Bihar by the artisans who practice this craft for generations. Munj and Khar are two type of sikki grass which are used in making of products along with the copper/iron wire frames. This is a unique craft handcrafted by artisans. This craft provides livelihood support to families of about 300-500 artisans, on regular basis, in Madhubani and adjoining districts of Bihar.
