Sujani started in early 1920s and till date it is being practiced.

Earlier it was considered as a form of quilting where ‘old saree and dhoti’ were used as the creative canvas. The cloth was folded twice or thrice, and then simple stitches were done on these ‘old and used’ clothing to add newness on them. But now ladies draw their daily life and create stories on new cloth with ‘Running and Chain Stitches. The basic raw materials are fabrics and thread, through which motives are created. This craft is only practiced by the ladies. Sujani is a unique product handcrafted by artisans. This craft provides livelihood support to families of about 400-600 artisan on regular basis in Bhusra (Muzaffarpur) and Nasriganj (Digha, Patna) district of Bihar.
