Eid al-Fitr is a festival that marks the end of Ramadan or the month of fasting in Islamic tradition.
Also known as “festival of breaking the fast,” Eid al-Fitr is among the most popular Muslim festivals. On this day, no Muslim is permitted to fast in Islam. It begins at sunset when the first crescent moon is sighted and the holiday is celebrated the next day. It is customary to give charity to the poor. The Eid prayer is performed in congregation in an open area. People dress up in fine clothing and children receive gifts on this day.
