Muharram is the celebration of the advent of Islamic New Year. It begins after the sighting of the new moon of the final day of the Islamic calendar.
Muharram is one of the holiest months for Muslims. Although the first day of the month is a celebration, the tenth day of this month called Ashura Shia Muslims engage in mourning rituals to mark the sacrifice of Hussein, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Whether there is celebration or mourning, there is great devotion to be seen during Muharram.
